Howdy all you human-folk!

I’m Sheriff Shelty with a little reminder, well no actually, more like a plea.

Us “dog-folk” — some of you humans just call us “dogs” but I think of us more as “folk” — anyways, us “dog-folk” played some mighty important roles back in the days of the old west.

We worked right out on the open range with the human cowboys. We’d help round up cattle and sheep.  With our keen sense of smell we could tell when trouble was a brewin’ and holler out a warnin’.  And to top it all off we provided some mighty good companionship to boot!

Other canine kinfolk would remain at the homestead and protect the family and the chickens and the livestock.  And they’d keep a close eye on those human youngin’s too!

So, my plea?  Well, I’m askin’ that ya don’t forget to include the “dog-folk” when it comes time to plan a shindig or a hoedown cuz we’d be right proud to be showin’ off a good old fashioned western outfit right along-side our favorite humans.

There’s a new sheriff in town
and he’s wrangled up some
mighty fierce jailbirds….

With this sheriff costume you’ll get the hat, bandana, and jumpsuit with stuffed hands.  It comes in Small (10-12”withers); Medium (14-16”withers); Large (18-20”withers). There is no size chart for this item but to find your dog’s withers, measure from the ground to the middle of the dog’s neck.  For a few tips on determining your dog’s size, refer to the article found at the bottom of this page.  It also includes a helpful diagram on how to measure your dog.

This doggie jailbird costume is 100% polyester and comes with a black and white striped top that says “Bad Dog” and a matching striped hat. It’s available in Petite, X-Small, Small and Medium sizes and is machine washable in cold water (line dry). The sizing chart for this costume will help you determine your pet’s size.

Here’s another version of a 100% polyester doggie prison costume. Now this rough and tumble jailbird costume has the traditional black and white striped shirt, pants and hat; however, the costume is slightly different from the image shown as the stripes on the actual costume are a little more narrow, the jumpsuit does not have any numbers on it, and the hat has ear holes (which is definitely a plus in the design of the costume).  The costume DOES include the shirt, pants, hat and a stuffed ball & chain. Cowboy Dog Rider Outfit. Ride ‘em cowboy!  This bronco-riding cowboy is saddled up and ready to ride.  Simply attach the dog harness and you’re all set.  The harness comes in one size that fits most medium sized dogs.  If your dog doesn’t fall into the medium sized dog cateogory, if you wanted to, you could alter it to fit smaller dogs by cutting the harness to a smaller size and stitching it back together.  One dog owner modified his harness by adding an extension to the harness so it would fit his great dane — which he said was worth it because people always asked him if he had a saddle for that animal…and now he does!

Cowboy Dog Costume. Yippee ki yi yay!  This pooch is ready to roundup some cattle!  This outfit includes the cowboy hat and jumpsuit with a red vest with fringe along the bottom, and little stuffed arms holding a lariat rope.

Helpful Information Re: Pet Costume Sizing

Not all sizing standards are created equally…
Even though you may be looking at several different pet costumes from one retailer, that doesn’t mean that a small in one costume will be the same measurements as a small in another costume. For example, when you shop for clothing in a major department store, the different clothing manufacturers do not base their sizes on the same sizing standards.

It’s important to be sure to check each costume’s sizing chart or measurement guidelines to determine the correct size for that individual item.

Easy Pet Measurement Diagram…

Length measurement is the most important measurement…
If all of your pet’s measurements don’t match up with the costume’s sizing chart; for example if the length matches, but not the weight, then if the costume comes with a shirt or sweater you’ll want to base your choice on the length.  Costumes with “shirts” are designed to fall a few inches above the base of the tail.

Also, bear in mind that the measurements provided by the costume manufacturers typically refer to the pet size rather than the costume size.

If your pet’s size falls between two sizes…
We advise that you purchase the larger size to be on the safe side.  It’s better to have a costume that’s little to big than one that your pet can’t fit into.  At least you can alter the larger costume with a couple of quick stitches, safety pins, or a little belt.
